Our education is gender neutral and texture inclusive; hair is hair, and by the end of the course you will be able to welcome a diverse clientele.

Our apprentices work under the supervision of José – our Education Director and gain their full NVQ2/3 qualifications on our accredited course. We currently have over 20 graduates from the programme who have joined the team as stylists and we are incredibly proud of their work.

It is one academy training day per week (10am – 6pm), as well as salon wide training once a month which is really beneficial and important to attend.

Yes, It is a paid day of training, at your full apprentice rate. We value your education as an investment. We pay living wages for our apprentices.

Full time assistants will be working 3/4 days in the salon alongside training.

It is your responsibility to find models however we do have a models email (models@mylaanddavis.co.uk) , which all apprentices can access to. This is where anyone looking to get their hair done at the academy can get in touch to find availity. As well as this there are multiple resources such as specific facebook pages, group chats, instagram and family and friends to help find models easily.

Our training is a 4 module program, with each module focusing on specific topics of learning. This provides a thorough training pathway encompassing all areas of hairdressing to a high standard. There will be theory lessons to teach the foundations of hairdressing, and you will practice your skills using live models with the eventual aim of passing NVQ assessments. Assessments are completed by the NVQ provider Kleek, who visit the salon every 6 weeks.

If you have enrolled at college then you can continue with your college education or you can switch over to our training program and NVQ providers Kleek. You do not need to do both.

The training can take anywhere from 2 – 3 years depending on your commitment and hard work. Each student is different and will work differently, we aim to nurture you to complete the training in the right amount of time for you.

The training is also in your own hands, watching stylists in the salon and absorbing as much information as possible, will aid your training immensely.

Testimonials

Alice

Academy Graduate / Junior stylist
Now Manager of our Here Hill Salon

Myla and Davis started as a Saturday job whilst studying Hair, Make-Up and Prosthetics at the London College of Fashion – never really thinking that I’d become a hairdresser. After finishing my degree, I decided that I wanted to stay and train. I love combining the skills I learnt at university with my role on the floor, for example providing advice on wig care to clients who use them. I hope to continue developing this additional knowledge as I progress further.

Maisie

Academy Graduate / Stylist
Now Manager of our East Dulwich Salon

I took part in the Myla and Davis apprentice programme for three years. The quality of training is incredible and I would highly recommend it. Whether you already have some experience or are starting from scratch as I did, the teachers are really patient and encouraging. The training has been a great foundation for the salon floor and having originally been unsure of which career path was right for me. I’m so pleased to have taken part.
